A conference?

Post by quasado »

Hello all,

We're currently thinking about arranging a conference somewhere in October / November in either England or Swiss. The goal is to have interested people meeting and arranging a community around the project also combining the people that want to get involved. We're hoping for increasing outer interest by doing so, for example, everyone could talk about how to buzz this project even further and the such. What you think? Would you join us for this? We'd like to see your feedback to figure whether it'd be worth to do it or not.

thanks
Alex

Sounds like a great idea. UK is better for me, but might even be able to stretch to CH if given enough notice and it works within budget. I would love to see if my input can help.

I agree, a great idea. Also UK would be better for me. A conference would be a good way to create even more project traction — I'm in

Hi Alex
I vote for CH of course, but suppose UK will suit most visitors better.

It is a good, nice idea to get personal contacts and opinions, to know each other in real life. However, in my experience for the pure essence of what it finally brings to a project, gatherings mostly need too much resources and time. Not being against it of course, but it is something to think about, especially when limited resources are an issue.

Sounds a great idea but maybe when software is up and running and users can have some feedback maybe for how it's going and ideas for the future? :)

Yes, you're correct with the limited resources. However, we'd be hoping to gain more attention to the project and have the people meeting in personal get more involved in spreading the word, that'd at the end, would help everyone and especially the project. What you think?

A conference is a good idea (UK would be my preference) if it brought together people who could 1) offer programming assistance to the build and 2) provide useful hands-on feedback to what has already been built.

Perhaps, like many Freehand fans, I would only be able to contribute a non-technical effort to 2).

It's all 'chicken and egg' at the moment - I think once this product is 'live' (with a downloadable demo) it will attract a huge amount of attention, press coverage... and sales! But until then, it will be seen as yet another promising software effort with a goal of providing a world-class, elegant vectoring solution.

As this point, it may be best to ask those who would attend a conference to donate the cost of doing so to the build and get to involved online. With the idea to have a press conference (launch/demonstration) at some point in the future.
