Hi,

I've read some of the ideas and think they sound a little clunky, and reflect the technical side of the program more then the creative side of the project. If its going to follow FreeHand's footsteps I think it should have a more creative and art driven name. I thought Expressive was a nice name to use and renaming it to StageStack was very confusing.

How about: CREATIVEFLOW ?

I tried to mimic the name of Freehand in another way. As you're trying to bring a new program with FreeHand's feel why not title it in a similar manner to give it some meaning :)

This post was not written by me.

My original post has vanished and I would like to know why. I'm sure I did not write something illegal or rude, but I can imagine for certain reasons that it's content should stay invisible and that would be OK for me.

But at least I would like to get a notification why I have been censored and I do not want to read posts under my name that I have not written and that are not even similar to what I have written.

Was 'Expressive' actually that bad?

My original impression was that 'Quasado Expressive' was actually a rather clever piece of marketing — simple, communicative and effective:

Creative people are all about expressing themselves (albeit often within a brief).

'Expressive' also has connotations of movement or speed, suggesting life and energy.

It has similarities with words such as 'progressive', 'impressive', 'effective', 'transmissive', all positive traits of our profession.

'Quasado Expressive', deliberately or otherwise, even vaguely hints at 'QuarkXPress', which may or may not be a bad thing (I'd say it's a good thing) ...

I like a lot of the proposals already on this thread, but I haven't seen anything as convincing, or as original and all-encompassing as 'Expressive'. And it rolls off the tongue (unlike Stagest??? — I've forgotten that one already).

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to come up with anything better than any of the above. :)

So, I'll have to suggest ... 'Expressive' !

Hi,

Seems most people do think the same, see http://www.freehandforum.org/forum/view ... ?f=9&t=726 :-)

Glad I'm not alone!

I just noticed the character number restriction on ideas for the new name so what about:

I was thinking of a direction in this way:

Vectorwonder

Artivector

Intellivector

Artificialator

Artsignify

Artidraw

ArtiHand

Significart

AwesomeHand

None has a domain yet

How about "BasicDraw"?
The domain is unregistered, the old application with this name is from 2008 and seems to be no professional tool, maybe they sell the name ...

The more I think about it, I think I like Expressive best as well. I also like that the word "Express" is included in it.
However, I don't see anything wrong with re-using the word "Free", as in Freeform or Freestyle. What's wrong with referencing Freehand? Isn't that the whole point of the new program??? And it certainly didn't sound like freeware before, so why would it now?

But please, don't go with something that starts with 'i'! We have enough iPhone/iPad/iCubic/iEverything already! :?

I also think 'Expressive' is a good as anything. It does after all, encapsulate what most creative types are trying to do and in my mind is much preferable to 'StageStack'.

The great thing with Freehand is that it wasn't necessary a specialised app in the sense that it focussed on one thing solely like illustration or DTP. It was a versatile app that encompassed many things, meaning you could get a lot done without having to move between apps thanks to its flexibility.

I don't mean to be overly critical but I feel a lot of the suggested names struggle to express (no pun intended) this versatility.

That said if it does everything it's promising to, you could call it 'Alfred Wobble's Wonderbox of Everything' and I'd still use it.

In fact if it also had raster image tools (perhaps like ACD's Canvas which sadly lacks a Mac version, and a massive undertaking I know) it really would be a one stop alternative to Adobe's design monopoly.
