There seem to be some exciting developments at <http://gravit.io/>.
Their Twitter feed is very active and suggests something could appear next month. <https://twitter.com/gravit_io>
GRAVIT : Is Quasado about to produce a Freehand replacement?
Re: GRAVIT : Is Quasado about to produce a Freehand replacem
As far as I can tell from all the previews, this is going to be geared more towards mobile/app/web prototyping than a print oriented applications.
The GUI seems to be too inflexible, and development very slow. Functionality seems extremely limited as well at this point.
If they aim at making a Fireworks alternative, they will encounter some very heavy competition from the likes of Tribaloid's "project underdog".

At this point I an unable to see Gravit succeed as a true (semi)professional illustration alternative to either existing vector drawing packages, OR as a Fireworks alternative. I just do not see it happening.
I'll be awaiting Project Underdog with much anticipation, though.
