Retain text attributes from MS Word

Good day! Is there a way to copy/open a text from MS Word to/in Freehand and still retain its attributes (Bold, Itals, etc.)? I always have to save my Word files as .txt to later on open them using TextEdit so I can copy/paste them to Freehand but the attributes gets lost already that way. Is there a workaround on this? Thanks!
