Freehand Illustrator?

Post by gusto »

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-Freehand-Illustrator-SVG-Drawing-2009-MX-Pro-Professional-Software-/150935048387

I bought this thing on ebay. It will be coming in March and I will review it then. It's delivering from the UK. I found it searching for Freehand MX on eBay. This is claiming to be some kind of Freehand Illustrator MX 2009, but it's listed under all kinds of enticing titles like Freehand Illustrator CS3 2009, but it's all the same box though Freehand Illustrator MT Software. It's only $10.00. Funny when you add names Freehand $400 + Illustrator $600, and it's only $10. I hope it's worth it.

I've seen this offer too. I found out it is a repackaged Inkscape with both Win/Mac versions. Sneaky fellows renaming it "FreeHand Illustrator".

Then I'm out the cost of 2 packs of smokes. I tried Inkscape. I didn't much care for it. Nothing is like Freehand. My college programmed me to use Freehand, and now I can't get along with any alternative. I should have looked at the screenshots on eBay and seen a similarity to Inkscape. Open source apps get ripped and sold as commercial software all too often.

The last version to open v.3-5 files was FreeHand 8. Whereas FreeHand 7 files should open in FHMX.

Obviously, old files need to be opened and saved as a newer version so get FH8 and install. In Windows it works as legacy and on Mac you will need to use Sheepshaver and install OS9. Is it worth the trouble?

Btw, old Mac versions of FreeHand are here: http://macintoshgarden.org/search/node/FreeHand
