Hello all,
Andy Somerfield from the Affinity team here.
We just released our latest beta and we are pleased to announce the first release of Freehand import!
Not everything is implemented yet but we will continue to improve the import over the coming weeks.
You can read about the importer here:
https://affinity.serif.com/forum/index. ... nd-import/
or sign up for beta access here:

I know a lot of people from this board helped me to write this feature by sending me sample files - thanks to everyone who helped!
Cheers,
AndyS
Affinity Designer Import Freehand!
Re: Affinity Designer Import Freehand!
Andy, glad to see your comment!
FreeHand was the one significant challenger to Illustrator on the Mac until it was acquired by Adobe. With it now gone there is a world-wide community of designers and artists seeking a modern replacement; one that has an intuitive approach to every tool like FH does but also doesn’t suffer "feature glut" like Illustrator. It still remains popular because there hasn't been a significant replacement...yet.
My feeling is that a design program should respond like an artist thinks, not like a programmer-thinks-an-artist-should-think. I heard that the Macromedia programmers actually watched designers create art and noted their moves for building FreeHand. That says a lot.
I've just started looking at the Designer beta but I see its potential. I can also see you guys at Affinity are listening to our feedback.

Re: Affinity Designer Import Freehand!
Unfortunately FreeHand import in Affinity Designer is far far away from being useful. For single simple objects maybe. But any of my compositions, without text, without brushes... its all gone.
