Freehand is only 1 new vector app away from oblivion. iDraw just might be that app. The chances of Adobe releasing FH are slim. Even with FFH applying pressure. If it does happen it will probably take another 3-5 year in which time things will have moved on so much FH will be well and truly obsolete. Apple's iDraw will probably mop up all those who refuse to adopt Illustrator. It's looking like a real contender.
Adobe look in trouble at the minute. Flash looks more or less finished, they're slashing staff - so they just might consider doing something with Freehand? Either way it's going to be way down the line - probably another 3 OSX versions.
If FFH (and supporters) don't take the bull by the horns and Kickstart a new App then I fear it's a foregone conclusion.
With almost 7000 members the resources are there. Even a measly $50 pledge for a new vector app gives the organisation a massive $350,000 fund to begin with. Do it now when you have the support and while there's still a vacuum.
By all means continue with the action but it seems foolish to not go ahead with a kick-starter project.
$50 pledge for a new vector App. Kickstart it!
Re: $50 pledge for a new vector App. Kickstart it!
I did not know about this programme but looking at what it can do, perhaps, it is a good one. I have failed to get Freehand 11.0.2 to open again ..... so perhaps maybe buy this in the meantime, although I do not suppose it works on a PPC running Leopard!
Re: $50 pledge for a new vector App. Kickstart it!
Is iDraw a good layout software also? I use Freehand for all print layouts/designs especially those with multiple pages like magazines etc..
Re: $50 pledge for a new vector App. Kickstart it!
Taking this project to Kickstarter is surely the only way to save Freehand (or an incarnation of) now.
Court cases are both lengthy and costly – resources which would be better channeled into developing a viable product we can actually use. Hacks and workarounds are becoming tedious on OS X, so something needs to be done ASAP.
With the sheer number of members now, something must be possible.

Does no-one care?
Re: $50 pledge for a new vector App. Kickstart it!
citrus, it's not that anyone doesn't care around here but that it isn't our mission to start FH from scratch with a clone. For two years, the goal has been to free up FreeHand from Adobe via the several alternatives mentioned in our Mission Statement. My guess is the members on this forum feel the same way and why they aren't responding until they know how this all shakes out with Adobe.
This isn't over yet...hang in there.

I must say, I'm keeping the faith in the FFH team and, until we know for sure what the outcome will be, I'm holding off considering other vector apps. And I'm certainly not upgrading to CS6 or Lion yet because of all the issues I've heard about with FreeHand and its files. But the introduction of funding platforms such as Kickstarter do bring more opportunities to the table for us to pursue, if we absolutely had to in the future. But I still have my faith
