Running on Wine Emulation on a Mac

Just bought a secondhand Intel MacBook running 10.7. looking at these FreeHand forums - I did think about running parallels or Fusion virtual but I have just installed a (wine) PC Emulator to run FreeHand MX. I have done this before using basic WINE emulation (on linux (various flavors) and odd PC (but Linux Elementary os seems to work best on emulation front). The usual Freehand PC interface is not as pretty as the Mac version (and it does not improve on Linux either under PC emulation). I thought however I would have ago using Mac WineBottler emulator... using PC installer and it works fine. http://winebottler.kronenborg.org

The big advantage is that 'WineBottler' works well on almost all the lastest Mac os versions. The downside is having to use a PC version of FreeHand - on a Mac! I still use my old PPC G4 to tidy the FreeHand files for export. It not be ideal but it works fine. Visually it may look better using VM Fusion or parallels but I still prefer my old Mac PPC G4 for signing off PDF's etc. It just looks better on a Mac anyway in my opionion. Under emulation it can be quite unpredictable what fonts are embeddable. So a Mac version is usually essential as well.

I used a FreeHandMX PC version in CrossOver for many years and I agree with your review. Since CrossOver is based on WINE, It did the job with my FreeHand files but the interface was flat. The biggest problem I had was my fonts wouldn't fully load so I only had a partial library. I am now using he OSXFH.com setup and FHMX is fast and seamless in High Sierra OS.
